Montmorency lawns sit in a green pocket of Melbourne’s north east, where large blocks, native gardens and a strong bush character set the scene. Established trees throw deep shade across parts of the yard, the soil runs heavier through the Plenty River corridor, and a lawn here has to share the space with mature roots and dry summer ground. That is why we start beneath the surface. We rebuild the base to drain and feed the grass, choose a hard wearing natural variety that copes with patchy light and full Melbourne sun, and lay it level across the generous areas these blocks allow. Where a section sits in permanent shade under the canopy, or stays too dry and rooted for grass to hold, artificial turf keeps a clean green surface all year with no mowing. The lawn goes in to work with the bush character, not fight it.
